Samsung Galaxy S5 hands-on: Gimmicky, but still the best phone money can buy
One of the more unnecessary smartphones... Like why exactly was this one relevant?
In theory, it’s very hard to find fault with the new Samsung Galaxy S5, unveiled on April 24 in Barcelona. It has superlative hardware, a recent version of Android (with a fairly unobtrusive version of TouchWiz), and it also just has more darn features than any other smartphone out there.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a hotly anticipated title that’s spanning four different platforms, and that means we’re in for some sweet console comparisons over the next month or so. The PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One will all receive versions of this game, and it seems as if the difference between each console is incredibly stark. It’s no surprise that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions look comparatively blurry, but the performance gap between the PS4 and Xbox One is a bit surprising.

Just a few days ago, China reported that its lunar rover, Yutu — named after the mythological Chinese jade rabbit that lives on the Moon — went gentle into that good lunar night. Now, just a handful of days later, the dead rover has awoken, shambling along the moonscape with its robot zombie bones.

Thanks to Microsoft’s quickly reformed draconian Xbox One always-online policies — and the PS4′s superior hardware — we all knew Sony’s console would take a sales lead. However, newly released sales figures for January show that the lead is bigger than many of us thought, and the PS4 still has not released in its home country of Japan.

According to invites sent out a little earlier this week for an “Unpacked 5″ event, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be unveiled on February 24 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This event comes a little bit sooner than anticipated (the S4 was unveiled in March last year at a standalone event in New York), but it’s well within the margin of error. The Galaxy S5, according to the rumor mill at least, is expected to have a high-resolution screen (possibly 2560×1440), an all-new aluminium chassis that finally does away with Samsung’s love affair for plastic, and a fingerprint or retina scanner. If the Galaxy S5 is unveiled in Barcelona, it will probably be released some time in March.

Samsung's newest Galaxy tablets go on sale this month, and they're packing hefty price tags. The company has announced pricing and availability for the Galaxy NotePro 12.2 and Galaxy TabPro 12.2, 10.1, and 8.4 models, four new tablets it unveiled at CES that are aimed at business users.
The Galaxy NotePro 12.2 will cost you $750 for the 32GB model and $850 for the 64GB option. Samsung's Galaxy TabPro 12.2-inch model comes with 32GB of storage and will set you back $650. The TabPro 10.1 costs $500 for 16GB, while the TabPro 8.4 gives you 16GB of internal memory for $400.
Those prices also include Galaxy Perks, which are essentially free subscriptions to popular services such as Hulu Plus, Dropbox, Bloomberg Businessweek+, and Cisco WebEx Premium.
You can purchase the Galaxy Note 12.2 tablets, as well as the Galaxy TabPro 10.1 and 8.4, starting on February 13, but you can pre-order them starting February 4 at midnight Eastern time. The Galaxy TabPro 12.2 won't be available until March 2014.
Ahead of launch day, Office Depot updated its Web site on Monday to say it is now selling the 64GB black version of the tablet for pre-order. You'll also be able to pre-order the tablets from Samsung.com, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Tiger Direct, PC Richard and Sons, Fry's, and Newegg.
All four tablets pack impressive specs, run Android 4.4 KitKat, and sport Samsung's new Magazine UX.
